How Ancestry DNA United Unknown Sisters

JoLynn had spent years researching her European Ancestry and was surprised to discover a document or file that stated one of her great grandmothers was from Africa. Then she took an Ancestry DNA test to know her ethnicity estimate result.

Ancestry: What motivated you to trace your family using Ancestry DNA?

JoLynn: One day, I found a document on my parental 3rd great-grandmother that recognized her as a free woman of color. I was so interested that I did an Ancestry DNA test, and my DNA results showed that I am 4% Southeastern Bantu.

Ancestry: How will you explain your level of personal family history knowledge before taking the Ancestry DNA test?

JoLynn: My family history knowledge before taking the Ancestry DNA test was limited. It is much easier to research online with all the data that Ancestry has.

Ancestry: Can you please tell us about your research approach once you were matched with possible cousins?

JoLynn: When I got the DNA match for my sisters, we were close to 1st cousins. But, I was not sure what that meant precisely. I also don’t know my other siblings, so I predicted we were cousins. I first started calling them cousins. It took only eight emails, and after we came to know that we are not cousins. We are half-sisters and have the same father. All of us were super excited, but it was also thrilling for my sisters since they had been given for adoption at birth and finally connected with their biological family members.

I give them the family photos of our grandparents and beyond. My DNA also matched with cousins on both my parental and maternal sides. I have also contacted my cousins that I am connected to through bondage. We have no intent to which ancestors we are connected or related through yet, but we are working on it.

Ancestry: What were the responses of your family members when you gave the information you discovered?

JoLynn: My mother is 88 years old, and she was surprised to know about my discovery. She did not know that my biological father had fathered twins before he married my mother. My sisters, whom I grew up with, were also surprised. We are half-sisters too, and all three have different fathers but the same mother. They were also excited to take the Ancestry DNA test to see what their results say to them. I am only saying my sisters as half-sisters for your clarification. I love my sisters more.

Ancestry: Can you please explain your experience after meeting your sisters for the first time?

JoLynn: After meeting my new sisters for the very first time, it was an exciting moment, and I was so tense. My sisters lived only a 5-hour drive away from me. They are identical twins and are so funny. My sisters had many questions, and we had a conversation with each other till our throats were sore from talking. The overall experience was very amazing, and we are not only sisters now but are good friends as well.

Ancestry: Has the experience of searching for your long-lost family changes you in any way?

JoLynn: The overall experience of searching for a new family was wonderful and awesome. I would not change a thing. I can’t say if the experience while searching my family has changed me anyway. It made me more aware that nothing is impossible. So, don’t be afraid and search for what you can and find out more possible thoughts.

Ancestry DNA is Improving The Accuracy of New Ancestors Discoveries

Ancestry introduced Ancestor Discoveries in 2015 that connects Ancestry DNA customers with potential new ancestors that may not be in your Ancestry family tree previously. A new Ancestry Discovery seems if you share a major amount of DNA with multiple members of an Ancestry DNA circle, that means you can also be connected to the ancestor when the DNA circle is built around.

These clues can be great for starting your research and help you connect with other family members you did not know you had. To find new Ancestor Discoveries, we made an algorithm with specific standards that connect people to DNA circles based on their Ancestry DNA matches. This algorithm was made in 2015 when Ancestry launched New Ancestor Discoveries, and with the fast growth of the DNA database, it needs to be updated.

As the Ancestry DNA circles get larger and more DNA matches are delivered, more people connect to the Ancestry DNA circles that result in more New Ancestor Discoveries, but there is a decrease in accuracy. You need to have more connections into Ancestry DNA circles to get a New Ancestor Discovery.

And all these updates will decrease the New Ancestor Discoveries that lead to an increase in Accuracy. Some populations may feel larger decreases. Ancestry is working to monitor and adjust this as necessary to assure meaningful discoveries for our members.

The new update to the Algorithm is currently happening, and you can also see the changes in the coming days. Earlier, you need to match at least two members from a known DNA Circle to be given a New Ancestor Discovery. Now, customers need to match 3 DNA Circle members to be given a New Ancestor Discovery.

For larger DNA Circles (16+ members), Ancestry users need to match 20% of DNA Circle to be given a New Ancestor Discovery.

Ancestry DNA Journey

Think where you come from and what you are made of. Our sense of identity stems from our culture, upbringing, family values, and stories passed down from generation to generation. But how much do you know about who you are and where you come from? Ancestry joined forces with international travel search site, Momondo and put 67 people for the DNA test.

Each one has different values, backgrounds, cultures, and participants were taken on a journey into who they are based on the DNA. What they discovered is that they have more in common with other nationalities than they might have expected, and we all are one global family.

How DNA Works

Your DNA is unique to you, and how it can tell you more about where you come from. Brad Argent, Ancestry DNA expert, explains, we get 50% of our DNA from our father and 50% DNA from our mother. They get 50% from their parents, and it goes back a long way. Those little bits of our ancestors or forefathers drip down through our parents. A genetic DNA test looks at Genealogy elements such as ethnicity estimates that will tell you where your ancestors come from.

How does DNA open the world?

Many of us must have been thinking that we are a part of a specific cultural story. But our DNA reveals that we are part of many stories, explains Brad Argent. Our DNA tells us more about our biological history of who we are.

How Much Space is Required For Security Camera Video Footage

The smart security camera can store and cascade enormously high-resolution video to help you to keep your eyes on what is happening around your home, and the stored videos mean that you can look at that activity whenever you want.

Local storage of a camera comes with a host of benefits, but you will need a MicroSD card. Now the question arises: what size of MicroSD card do you need and how much footage you will store as well. The footage storage can be differing from camera to camera, but you need to consider several things.

Resolution Vs. Time: When you decide how much storage capacity you need, you must consider the resolution and recording length. The lower resolution video takes more inadequate space than the higher resolution video but at the expense of clarity. The most common explanation for the modern security camera is 1080p or 1440p, called 2K or 4K. You can make out more detail in 2K video in 1080p than 4K video in 1440p footage, which depends upon the brands, and you may have the option to store footage at a lower resolution to maintain space into your memory card.

Many security cameras offer options for continuous recording, and you will still get notifications of motions and activities around your home, but it will record each minute of each day. This will need more storage space in comparison to the event recordings.

Frame Rate: Another essential feature is frame rate. That video that takes 30 frames per second (fps) requires less space than those videos that take 60 fps. Not all the cameras will allow you to adjust the fps of recording, so you will receive better footage of a higher frame rate, which may be affected by the lighting conditions. For example, some cameras will shoot 15 fps because of the lower light situation but revert to their default 30 fps when the light conditions are good.

On the other side, when you choose to record high-resolution recording, your storage requirements will be huge, and you need a standard SD card. And at that time, you must select a security camera that offers network-attached storage (NAS) as an option because you will be able to attach an external hard drive.

Codec and Compression: A codec is a type of encoding software that encodes the digital footage into that language in which the computer can read and store. There are a few kinds of codecs, and each store video and audio at a different rate and a different storage size. Examples of codecs are H.264 and HEVC.

Compression is another feature. All videos do not store in their original size. In maximum cases, compression takes less space on a memory card and the hard drive, and the Compression algorithm used by the security camera when you are going to play video in a significant role in how much memory footage is required.

How much space is required by a security camera?

Eufy 2K Pan & Tilt Camera: This one minute of 2K resolution footage takes 40MB space. According to that, around 2.4GB per hour and about 57.6GB per day when you record continuously.

When you need event recording and assume six events per day with two minutes of recording each, then that is only 480MB per day.

Wyze Cam Outdoor: In this one minute of video takes 5MB space. According to that, around 30 minutes of video takes 255MB space and 450MB for an hour and about 10.8GB per day when you record continuously.

What size storage should you buy?

Although you can search in MicroSD card and SD cards up to 1TB in size, a 256GB memory card will be enough for some days worth of footage in most cases. With the highest capacity requirements, a 256GB memory card will store around 4.5 days worth of footage when you record continuously.

A considerable majority of the security cameras use rolling space, which means that the old clip will be erased or replaced when the cards are filled. In many cases, you do not need to erase the footage manually to make space for more. When you want to archive clips, you will want to look into the system that offers you an external hard drive.

They are more affordable when you are looking at the cost per gigabyte rate, making them more cost-efficient when you intend to store all your footage for an extended period. One concern about using the local storage option is that there is the possibility of failure just because everything goes wrong due to tear and wear; hard drives and memory cards are no exception. Some companies offer recovery services that can rescue the footage that would otherwise be lost.
