Guide to Using the Picture-in-Picture Feature in Firefox

 

You must be familiar with the times you had to pause the video streaming in between to switch platforms. However, now many platforms have started supporting the Picture-in-Picture mode, which enables you to view the video on a smaller screen while you use some other platform

Video streaming platforms like Netflix use the PiP feature and makes it easy for you to continue watching a show or a movie without stopping in between. Fortunately, Mozilla Firefox also offers PiP mode.

Enabling Picture-in-Picture Mode in Firefox

Notably, the Picture-in-Picture mode is supported by the desktop version of the browser. The settings toggle is available at the top of the video when you play it on the website. Once you enable the settings, you can start using the PiP feature with any video.

Therefore, the steps to enable and use the PiP feature in Firefox are:

  1. Launch ‘Firefox’ on your PC.
  2. Go to the ‘Settings’ menu of the browser.
  3. If you’re using a Windows PC, locate the three-line menu button in the upper-right corner of the screen and click on the same. A drop-down menu will open. Select the ‘Options’ option.

If you’re using Mac, locate the three-line menu button in the upper-right corner of the screen and click on the same. A drop-down menu will open. Select the ‘Preferences’ option.

  1. Click on the ‘General’ tab from the left menu and go to the ‘Browsing’ section.
  2. Mark the checkbox for the ‘Enable Picture-in-Picture Video Controls’ option.

Once you’ve enabled the Picture-in-Picture mode, you’ll have to toggle the same in Firefox to use it.

If you’ve never used the feature in Firefox, it’ll appear as a rectangular icon when you play the video. However, once you’ve used the feature, it’ll only appear as a small icon. Tap on the icon to convert the video into a floating window. Now, you can work on other windows as well while the video is playing.

Furthermore, you can use the play/pause buttons to control the streaming.

Enabling Picture-in-Picture Mode with the Context Menu

Notably, PiP mode can be used by using the context menu on various websites, including YouTube. Follow these steps:

  1. Play the video and right-click on it.
  2. Right-click once again and select the ‘Picture-in-Picture’ option.
